How Groundskeeper started

A few years before I worked in Landscaping, I built a little app to track fall cleanup work for a landscaping crew. It was a fun project, and helped keep everything on track. However, it was just a side project, and only worked for a season.

After my stint in landscaping, I decided that my little app might be helpful to many landscapers. Unfortunately, my first app wasn't built in a scalable way, so I started again. This time, I made sure the software could support multiple businesses and multiple crew.

I also noticed a number of other products on the market. I wasn't impressed with any of them. They were either over priced, or just difficult to use. I wanted to build something to raise the bar, and really make a difference to landscaping businesses. I didn't want a grudge purchase. I wanted excited customers.

So with that, I set out to design and build Groundskeeper. Its taken months of work. I don't have employees, and had a limited budget to get some help to speed the project along. I launched it in the spring of 2026.

There is still so much work to do. I have a long list of features and dreams to bring to the industry. If you've read this far, I could also use your help. About me

My name is Nico. I've been passionate about building excellent software for many years. In fact, I started writing code at age 12, in the '90s, and not a year has passed without me writing code in some form or another.

A few years ago, I took a break from software companies and worked in a Landscaping business. I got first hand experience of waking up early, starting the crew at the crack of dawn, coordinating the work, meeting customers, dealing with emergencies, coming home late, and doing a few hours of admin before starting again. There has to be a better way.

I ended up working in the software industry again. However, the desire to help landscapers never left me. So here I am, trying to build excellent software to help excellent landscapers do their best work.
